I started my bodice back by tracing a block pattern and slitting and spreading it (image 1) and adding in 20cm the same as the front. I traced around that to get my bodice back, putting in the notches for my shoulders (image 2). It was a success as it matched up well with the bodice front.
I then had to figure out how I wanted the back to lie. I tried this neckline first (image 3). I wanted quite a straight neckline on my bodice back due to having the cowl neckline on the front.
I decided to cut the pattern piece out to try and get the right neckline and shape for the bodice back (image 4). Although it was difficult to fully see what the bodice will look like I think this back neckline matches well with the front and will overall work well and create the look I wanted to achieve when the gathering and elastic is in place. The neckline on this pattern is what I’ve decided on for the pattern stage but I don’t think I will fully know until I make my toile. I have decided to keep the seam in the back during the toile stage to see whether I will need it or not.
