LBD construction- Metal

I then started working on my pattern pieces for my belt. I started with the main belt part (image 1) I decided to curve the belt slightly to create the fitted look I wanted around the waist.

I then needed to figure out my buckles and harness straps. I firstly measured the distance in the buckle to see how wide I could have my buckle straps (image 3). I then tried it with a piece of scrap leather to check that my belt would function (image 4). I then decided on the shape of my straps for the pattern pieces (image 3) I measured the distance between the waist and the metal skirt to get an average measurement for straps to hold up the metal. It was difficult to get the pattern pieces for this because they were based on estimations because there are no definite pattern pieces but using my judgement I think the pattern pieces will work out well.

I now needed to find a way to get my pattern pieces onto the leather. I used weights to try and keep it as flat as possible (image 5). I then taped the pieces to the leather and drew markings and finally matched those up to transfer the pieces onto the leather (image 6). This was difficult because the leather kept moving even with the weights on it.
