LBD construction- Final

I then stitched my side seams on my skirt and pressed them to the back (image 1). My skirt and bodice now needed to be gathered. The fabric was more difficult to gather than the lining fabric as it was thicker. I then stitched my bodice and skirt together (image 2). It was difficult to sew together as there were four layers of fabric; I also had to be careful not to catch any fabric in the process. Overall I think it worked really well and looked neat and professional.

I then stitched in the elastic stitched a band of elastic 26inches long to create the waist band. The elastic was even more difficult to stitch in place than in the toile because there were more layers to try and feed the elastic through. Once the elastic was in place I put my dress on the mannequin (image 3). I was really disappointed with the overall look of the elastic as it was too loose and hung more on the hip than the waist. I decided to unpick the elastic (image 4) and shorted it to 20inches to see if it was going to make a difference. After doing that it still didn’t make a difference to the dress and hung too low.
